Byng School Recognized
for Exemplary JOM Program

Byng School was recognized on March 24 for their exemplary JOM program at the 2010 Johnson O'Malley Conference held at the Tulsa Mariott Southern Hills. The theme for this year's conference was "Weaving Tradition, Culture, and Education." Each of the five civilized tribes recognizes an outstanding or exemplary school within their nation that participates in the JOM program. Byng was the school chosen this year by the Chickasaw Nation.


Sadie Milligan Wins JOM Art Contest

Sadie Milligan, a Byng freshman, was awarded first prize in an art contest hosted by the Johnson O'Malley program. Any JOM student from any of the five civilized tribes could enter. The theme was "Weaving Tradition, Culture, and Education for the Future." Sadie and her artwork were recognized at the 2010 Johnson O'Malley Conference held in Tulsa on March 24. She received a $100 prize and her artwork was featured on the conference T-shirts. In addition, her artwork was recreated on a large cake (shown above) for her winning celebration. The art contest is a yearly event and 1st through 4th places are awarded.

In addition to the JOM art contest, Sadie also recently received grand prize at the OU Language Fair in the art division with a poster and 2nd place for a PowerPoint presentation over the Chickasaw language.
